Why the swatch lies
Tucson’s light is intense, warm, and directional, and it changes a paint color more than most people expect. A gray that looked calm in the store can turn lilac or green on a sunlit wall, and a warm white can glare by mid-afternoon.
The only reliable test is a large sample on your actual wall, viewed at several times of day — morning, harsh midday, and the long warm light of late afternoon that defines so much of the year here.
Judge paint on your own wall at 4 p.m. in July, not on a chip under store lighting.
Undertones and light
We steer toward colors whose undertones hold up in warm light, and we consider which walls take direct sun and which stay shaded. A single color rarely behaves the same on every wall of a room.
